St. Charles Hospital's Pediatric Hospitalist Program provides hospitalized children, their parents and their pediatricians with round-the-clock access to in-house pediatricians. Services include direct care of children admitted to the hospital, on-going communication with a child's own pediatrician and pediatric consultations in the emergency room, the nursery and on the pediatric unit.
Pediatric Hospitalists Pediatric Hospitalists are pediatricians trained in the management of children admitted to the hospital. They are on staff, in the hospital from 7 am until 10 pm. From 10 pm until 7 am, pediatric nurse practitioners, specialized in the care of children, are on the pediatric unit to provide one-on-one care throughout the night. Pediatric services include the following:
Admission of patients to the hospital
Diagnostic testing
Medical supervision and treatment for numerous illnesses and/or conditions
On-going communication with patient's pediatrician
Discharge planning
Newborn coverage while in the hospital (for babies in the nursery)
